Copenhagen is the capital of Denmark, the world’s oldest kingdom, with a monarchy extending back for more than 10 centuries. Copenhagen is also the center of gay life in Scandinavia. There is a general acceptance and openness of homosexuality not found in most parts of the world. Indeed, the world’s first gay organization, LBL, had its start-up in Copenhagen in 1948, and Denmark in 1989 was the first country to recognize same-gender partnership civil unions.

The central area of Copenhagen is a small concentrated area, and it is a pedestrian paradise where one can wander the old Middle Ages’ street plan with its man cobblestone walking streets. Bicycles almost outnumber cars in Copenhagen, and you can borrow a public City Bike from one of the scores of stands throughout the central area.

Visit the world renowned Tivoli Gardens (seasonal spring/summer and winter openings), see the 17th century buildings of King Christian IV including his Round Tower observatory still in operation, or explore one of Copenhagen’s many galleries and museums such as the Glyptotek collection of statues and artwork.
